My husband and I are getting a cat in a couple of months, courtesy of his parents. We don't know the sex but we got a picture of it from when they were first born; in the garden at my in-laws' house. Miraculously they weren't eaten by snakes.
@PapaFish88 and I have been in a battle over what to name our new kitten. We don't know the sex of it yet but we have finally on two names for a female, and two names for a male. And so far we've heard that this cat is the most active of the bunch; the one always climbing and lying on the others, the one mewing more than the others, etc. So... as per usual... we are bringing our debate to the mighty Xanga to allow this mattered to be settled by you wholesomely unbiased *cough* Xangans.
The names we have chosen are:
Female:
Mew
Not the correct spelling but this is "milk" in Japanese, well, mewmew is.
Io
A Greek virgin maiden who was "seduced" (which normally actually means raped) by Zeus who then turned her into a hefer to hide her from his ever-jealous wife, Hera.

From "Clash of the Titans" 'cause she's so pretty.
Male:
Hades

^ Also from Clash of the Titans ^
Sticking to the "Greek Mythology" theme. Hades is the God of the Underworld, tricked by his brother Zeus into taking up this job which he was none-too-happy about. Hades is also used as the term for the afterlife.
Smaug
Pronounced "smog", we had to make sure our children could pronounce the names we've chosen. Lol! Smaug is the dragon from a little known book called "The Hobbit". Smaug terrorized the entire dwarven kingdom of Middle Earth, stealing the treasures that they dug up in their mighty caves. Think of Moria in Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring.
We were really debating on whether or not to name it JarJar Binks, Smaug, or Balrog, another great Tolkien character/villain. Plus we had to choose something that our boys could pronounce. We even tried leaving it up to the children to decide but Aidan said "Singo" and Isaak said "Castle". LOL! Boys.
So, lovely Xangans, give us your input. Choose one male name and one female name and we will announce the final decision laterz.

Orange cats are almost always male. I like Hades or maybe Dante?
@UndyingNova - Yea, the probability of it being male is 80/20 to female. Calico cats on the other hand, are, almost always female.
If it's a girl Marmelade! Ya know as in orange.
If it's a boy It's gotta be somethin to do with fish or the ocean and you seem to like Clash of The Titans so how bout CRACKIN!Or however they spell it in the movie LOL Or just call him The Crackin
CALL IT FARTBUTT
@MommaFish89 - Yea.. has something to do with chromosomes I believe. (:
lol smaug ftw
smaug wins. male or female, name it smaug.
Little known book? No way! The Hobbit is forever a classic!
I <3 J.R.R. Tolkien. Definitely go with Smaug for a boy. And I like Mew for a girl.
I like how some people have lost the point of Momma and I already having names picked out. lol. And I love the Tolkien fans going nuts for Smaug. I'm also leaning towards him more and more. Such an awesome villain.
I like Mew for either male or female.
@PapaFish88 - he was such an awesome villain!
@PapaFish88 - Plz do Smaug. Or Fartbutt. Either one.
I always suggest naming dogs and cats with 2-syllable names. I've had a LOT of can naming experience (probably more than anyone ever should, really) and it feels weird calling a 1-syllable named animal. Seriously. Try it a few times in the sing-songsy animal call voice you will inevitably do :P Jasper rolls off the tongue way better than Jaxx ever did.
The other thing I'd suggest is don't name a kitty until you meet them! I had a name all picked out for my kitten, (was going to name her Fayde from a video game I play) but when I learned her personality it just didn't fit! It also didn't roll off the tongue as well when I called for her, so her named just ended up becoming Bush Baby (because she looks like one!)
Anyways, I could go on and on talking about cats, but I think you get where I'm coming from here :) Cool names you've thought of though!
McClane. Name it McClane. John McClane.
i agree with @grizzlybearr - Smaug beats all the other ones!!
I like Io.
Or cheddar. Haha.
But really...Io. I have a Pandora, a Hesiod, and a Lilith. Go Io.
How about Glad (sort for Gladiril), a female elf off of LOTR for girl,
and Sissy, short for Sisyphus (Greek mythology ) for a boy?Random, but I don't think "myuumyuu" (Or Mewmew) is milk in Japanese. Pretty sure that's "gyuunyuu" (Or Gewnew).
@emily_shannon - Listen to it on Google Translate, it seriously sounds like mewmew. Either way we like that name.
I think Smaug is a great choice, male or female! You might find "Mayhem" to be an appropriate name!
If it is a male -- whatever you name him, you will generally call him Dude most of the time. Dude is the perfect name.
Female: Haley.
Male: Eric
It's not the options u have chosen, but I'd hope these names are given some consideration in the naming process. Either way, I'd love to see more pics of this kitten. You will be happy to have a cat. I know I am.
My cats are Scout, Oliver, and Caspar (no, not as in the ghost >.<) And I adore their names. But they also get nicknames because you never really know a cats personality til you've been around it long enough. So, Caspar is now called, Loki. And Oliver is Miko. :P As for Scout, she is my sweet & only girl, who I also call Guffy.
The boys have a sister named Pippa. And I always thought Pip would be a cute name for a boy kitty! Or maybe Gideon, I've always adored that name.
